Women's Keelboat Racing Program

Non-scored practice races for women in J/24s are held on Tuesday evenings throughout the season, and will be scheduled in accordance with the BYC Race Calendar. The purpose of the program is to encourage the participation of all-woman crews in learning how to race performance keelboats.  Participants may be either BYC members or guests, provided they have pre-registered for the program and have paid a participation fee for borrowed-boat insurance and damage deposit.  The fee is to be paid by each and every participant, including owners and owners' representatives. For further information, please contact our Race Committee Chair at racing@beverlyyachtclub.org.

The intent of the program is to encourage learning and building of racing experience on the water.  Accordingly, daily prizes will not be awarded during the program.  A Woman's Keelboat Regatta will be held for program participants at the end of the regular program.

On-the-Water Race Committee Training Sessions

Come and join us aboard Commodores to learn about being on the Race Committee! The racing program at Beverly Yacht Club depends completely upon volunteers to run its nearly 300 races per season – and we are pleased to announce that Bill Saltonstall will be leading a couple of courses that are appropriate for beginners, as well as those who’d like to brush up on their skills. There will be others on board to help, as well, to ensure that everyone gets individualized attention.

No experience is necessary – just a desire to learn about becoming part of the race committee team and what it’s like to help to run races for our fleets. There are many positions to fill on board Commodores, which comprise all skill levels.

We have divided the courses into two sessions:

Thursday Twilight Series One Design Racing:  Learn to manage the racing for three of our one-design fleets, the J/24s, J/80s, and Shields. Thursday Twilight is an exciting night, with lots of starts and finishes for the race committee to keep track of.
  • Session Dates (you must attend all 3):  June 7, 14 & 21, 2018.
  • Meet inside the Club House at 1630 sharp for an organizational meeting; Commodores departs at 1700.
  • Limit: 7 participants

Wednesday Twilight Handicap Racing:  Learn to manage the racing for our three Handicap fleets, Class 1 (Race – with spinnakers), Class 2 (cruising), and Class 3 (cruising). Wednesday Twilight is a lot of fun, especially watching those big boats cross the start line!
  • Session Dates (you must attend all 3):  July 25, August 1 & 8, 2018.
  • Meet inside the Club House at 1630 sharp for an organizational meeting; Commodores departs at 1700.
  • Limit: 7 participants
