Tower Race 2017

2017 marks the 49th annual Parker Converse Tower Race – a fifty mile race along some of the most beautiful islands and coastlines in Massachusetts. We hope you can join us!

What makes “Tower” unique: the course transits the entire length of Buzzards Bay as well as long stretches in Vineyard Sound and the North Atlantic Ocean south of Cuttyhunk Island.

•    Sail in a nighttime race while enjoying steady afternoon breezes
•    Sail in three different bodies of water
•    Race upwind, off wind and downwind legs
•    Test your navigation skills in some of the most challenging waterways on the east coast
•    The Tower is a qualifying race for the Buzzards Bay Trophy

The most fun and exciting part of the Tower race is the decision: do you sail counterclockwise to the Tower first or clockwise through Quick’s hole? Usually half the fleet chooses one way and half the other. No one knows who made the right call until boats converge back in Buzzards Bay.

Date: Saturday, July 15. First gun is 1230.

Who: monohulls with both a PHRF rating and who meet US SAILING Safety Equipment for a Coastal Race

Start and Finish:  Off Marion, MA: Lighted Red Buoy “2” at Centerboard shoal. All boats must record their own GPS finish time once abeam of Red “2” and text the time and name of boat to 508-954-0906. Scores will be published on Regatta Network.

Course: Skipper’s choice: either first sail through Quick’s Hole then round lighted gong Green 31 at Devil’s Bridge (at Gay Head Light, Martha’s Vineyard) to starboard then round the Buzzards Bay Tower to starboard leaving Cuttyhunk and Penikese Islands to starboard, OR THE REVERSE: clockwise, Tower first leaving the above to port.
