Racing J/80s at BYC is fast and competitive with roots deep in the class. BYC hosted the 2018 J/80 North American Championship, won by former BYC Commodore, Chip Johns, followed in 2019 by current NA Champ, Henry Tomlinson, Who also races Aegir in the BYC fleet.
The J/80 fleet has over 1600 boats worldwide and is an international class. Here in North America, over 250 boats compete for Local, North American, and/or World titles. The US is hosting the 2022 Worlds at Sail Newport in Rhode Island.
BYC has a strong One Design class racing under the Fleet 12 Massachusetts banner. We often get 10+ boats on the line for Thursday evening racing (6-8 p.m.) and for 2021, we are starting up experimental Saturday afternoon (2-3 p.m.) racing in conjunction with the Shields fleet. We have a fabulous dry sail arrangement with Bardens boat Yard that lets new racers in without worrying about being on a mooring wait list forever. Pay the fee and get launched! (and stored again on your trailer between races).
