Cruising
The Beverly Yacht Club and its Cruise Committee support a vibrant and active cruising fleet focused on club cruises on waters in and around New England. We strive to create fun, adventure, and camaraderie for a range of experiences and cruising tastes for families, solo sailors, and racers alike. We also welcome our growing fleet of cruising motor yachts. Frequent destinations include Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and other well-known locations around Buzzards Bay, along with annual summer cruises that take place between Maine and New York. Every few years and during the winter months, the Cruise Committee organizes a charter cruise to the Caribbean. BYC has a well-established reputation around the Southcoast of Massachusetts and enjoys welcoming and reciprocal visits at many yacht clubs in the region.
Annual BYC Cruise activities include a spring Men’s Shakedown Cruise, a Racer-Cruiser Weekend with a pursuit race to Cuttyhunk, a Fourth of July Sunflower Raft, a Women’s Maiden Voyage, a Family Fun Cruise, a two-week Summer Cruise with alternating years to Maine, Labor Day Cruise, Friends of Fall Cruise and impromptu Follow-the-Flag weekends to local harbors.
Cruisers are frequently participating in the Marion Bermuda Race, a Corinthian cruising yacht race co-sponsored by the Beverly Yacht Club, the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club and the Bluewater Sailing Club. The race takes place in alternating years and will hold its 50th anniversary race in 2027. The Marion Bermuda Race is a great way to experience real Bluewater sailing and racing.
In addition to its on-the-water activities, the Cruise Committee organizes educational opportunities for members including classes on diesel engine repair and maintenance, coastal and celestial navigation, flag etiquette, and general cruising knowledge.
BYC members, be sure to check the Cruise Committee page on the member website for details on upcoming events!
